Tell me more...

We live in a context of constant change and far too often, of constant stress.

Sometimes, we find that the strategies that helped us tackle challenges in the past are no longer as effective.

Sometimes, we notice that these strategies weren’t successful in the first place.

Or indeed sustainable in the long term.

What if you could approach change and challenges, in a gentle, adaptable way, by taping into your wisdom, resourcefulness and your internal board of advisors?

What if you learned to decipher your internal body language to probe your thoughts without judgement and envision new perspectives?

Charlotte & Josianne have partnered to create a programme that does just that.

It is practical, pragmatic and offers an opportunity for reflection, discussion and experimentation.

Through both language and movement, the programme helps you refine your relationship to yourself by deconstructing & reconstructing your thought patterns, beliefs and behaviours.

This retreat is an invitation to shift from the habitual, predictive brain state into a brain state that is receptive and curious – one in which you are capable of taking in new information and experiences.

Join us to look at your world with fresh eyes, to remove the blinkers and discover a fresh sense of wonder and awe.

Charlotte’s focus: breath & movement

“The modern world has trained us to use our heads, to value cognitive function over the body, but in doing so, we have a lost a sense of who we are, our bodies have become rigid, stuck in old movement patterns that serve us no purpose.

So this is an invitation to go against the grain, to reclaim your connection to yourself, to remap out movement patterns, to bring back ease to your body and breath.

You’ll practice movements that hydrate the body, restore fluidity and ease to the breath, and improve coordination and efficiency to the fascial network.

You’ll practice movements that activate and relax the muscles, giving you a stronger felt sense of your body.

You’ll learn how movement connects the outer world to your inner world, how it creates a sense of connection with self and others and how it increases your own personal sense of well being.”

Josianne’s focus: language & thought patterns

“You’ll learn to engage with your body with curiosity and notice subtle changes, which in turn you’ll learn to translate & interpret.

As you learn to trust your body and find a sense of ease and safety within it, then you may follow your inner instincts, whatever they are, however you experience them.

In parallel, you’ll explore your thought patterns through group discussions as well as self reflection. You’ll learn to notice your language patterns, demystify beliefs, challenge assumptions and clear your mental slate.

You’ll then experiment with tools & techniques to set clear goals, identify potential resistance points, curate your thoughts in such a way that you prime your brain for taking daily steps towards achieving your goal.

You’ll learn to lean in to your fears with gentleness & compassion rather than ignoring them or fighting with them.”

We won’t promise that you’ll have a breakthrough and change your life.

What we can promise is that you’ll spend a week with like minded individuals, close to nature, in an incredible location.

You’ll experience many insights, probably will be inspired.

You’ll also experiment with tools & techniques to help you adapt to changes in your life and thrive, in a sustainable fashion.

You’ll learn how to use breath, movement and language to help you overcome challenges and find both your wisdom & your peace of mind.

And we think that’s a very useful way to spend a week.

In fact, we’re so convinced by it that we named our retreat after this belief.

We hope to see you in our ‘really useful retreat in Bali’

Who is this for

Anyone who wishes to experience an opportunity to pause, take stock of how you show up in life and experiment with new perspectives & ways of being.

You’ll be in a tropical jungle so you should be comfortable with coming in close contact with nature and disconnected from urban settings.

The retreat is inclusive and welcomes all genders, all ages, all nationalities, belief systems…. and flexibility. All yoga & movement practices are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all bodies.

Rest assured there won’t be any acrobatics or strenuous yoga postures. In fact, you won’t need any specific type of clothing, other than comfortable. No prior experience of yoga is required to attend, just a willingness to be curious.

Accommodation

The bungalows are traditional Balinese open-air dwellings, close to rice paddies, a waterfall & the jungle. Practically, this means that there is no air conditioning. The bungalows are kept cool with fans and the breeze.

In addition, there are limited man-made sounds around. Instead, you will be immersed in the sound of flowing waters and the ‘soothing chorus of tropical jungle’.

Immerse yourself in nature for a totally liberating experience.

Each one of the Balinese bungalows at Bali Eco Stay is your own mini sanctuary. You have total privacy and comfort while being a stone-throw away from all the resort’s facilities.

In keeping with the island’s breathtaking natural beauty, our overwater bungalows Bali have been specially designed using locally sourced materials that naturally blend into the mountain scenery.

There are three options for you to choose from, each priced differently:-

  1. Private bungalow, no sharing with other guests

  2. Private bungalow, sharing bathrooms & common rooms but not sleeping arrangements

  3. Shared bungalows, including bedrooms

What to expect

Whilst this is designed to be a full week of coaching and yoga, we also believe that it is important for you to have time off to reflect, pause and be and as such we have factored this in to the schedule. On the day that you arrive, you will have time to settle in and meet the rest of the group.

On the 4th day, there will be no workshops and instead you will have the opportunity to go on a guided hike to explore the local area.

Your arrival and departure from the resort will be marked by traditional Balinese ceremonies to open and close the retreat.

On the other days, our schedule will be broadly as follows:

  • Before breakfast, morning practice with Charlotte - activate & release patterns of tension in the body with a series of mindful movements

  • 9.00am - Breakfast

  • Morning workshop with Josianne

  • 12.30pm - Lunch

  • Afternoon workshop with Josianne

  • Evening practice with Charlotte - balance the body and quieten the mind through deep rest & relaxation

  • 7.30pm - Dinner

All meals are included within the price of the retreat. All food offered will be vegetarian and most of the food is grown onsite, using permaculture.

Bali Ecostay offers unlimited complimentary filtered spring water throughout the resort, sourced onsite. There is a strict no plastic bottled water policy to reduce plastic waste.

About Bali Eco Stay

Bali Eco Stay is a sustainable resort in the heart of Bali

Nestled deep in the energetic heart centre of the island, the green sanctuary lies among the rich and verdant landscapes of the Balinese Jungle. With spanning rice fields and terraces as far as the eye can see, charming villages steeped in profound local customs, pristine ancient forests, and centuries-old temples beneath the coconut shell mountain of Mt. Batukaru, you will have the opportunity to truly unify with nature and enjoy an intimate reunion with mother earth.

With no traffic to speak of, you won’t hear the horns, sirens, and construction noise of the city or the bustling clamour of hotels and nightlife found in the well-touristed areas of Bali. In this oasis of peace, you will bathe in the sounds of the waterfall as it flows outside of your rice water bungalow, take refuge in the rhythmic symphony of jungle insects, and feel the light breeze as it passes by and shakes the coconut trees.

This retreat is an opportunity for you to reset your batteries, but also to let your body detox on a deepest level. Everything you’ll be consuming here is grown on-site, using organic ingredients and sustainability practices, and harvested with loving hands before each meal. The water is as pure as the food, as it comes straight from the spring and is additionally filtered.

MORE ABOUT US

  • Charlotte Douglas

Charlotte is an experienced yoga therapist; certified by the IAYT, and trained by the Wisdom Institute of Yoga who offer trauma informed, evidence based yoga therapy programmes.

Originally from the UK but has lived in Hong Kong with her family for 13 years. She believes passionately that the practice of yoga is not just about physical well-being, but rather a much more holistic wellness approach. It’s about finding a sense of ease within the body. She offers a truly collaborative approach that is not bound to any one system or method of yoga. Instead, Charlotte brings together a unique combination of postural yoga, breath-work, somatics, meditation and mindfulness.

Charlotte believes that a practice of mindful movement is integral to developing a capacity to be aware of our internal state and therefore our ability to chose what to focus on. These tools range from simple and easy to do developmental movements to complex mobility tasks as a way to ‘wake up’ the brain without strain or injury. When incorporated into our lives, mindful movement can help us to build the tools and resources for resilience as well as help us to access greater levels of pleasure and joy in our lives.

  • Josianne Robb

Josianne is a change agent, educator, coach, seasoned digital transformation leader and more.

She trained as a coach with Tony Dickel & Craig Mackenzie in Transcend International (HK) as well as with Ben Harvey and Cham Tang in Authentic Education (Australia). This eclectic training mix reflects her practical & pragmatic approach to coaching. Josianne has been accredited as a Professional Certified Coach by the International Coaching Federation (ICF PCC), following a rigorous training & assessment.

Josianne specialises in helping people go through pivots, transitions and personal reinventions. This entails re-establishing the foundations of our relationship to ourselves, symbolised by the way we share our story and the tone of that little voice inside our head.

Over years of personal development, she has succeeded in becoming her own best friend, develop a sustainable sense of resilience and the ability to tap into her natural resourcefulness. Over time, she has realised that we can grow through pain and desperation, or through inspiration and intentional, controlled discomfort. She enjoys the latter better.
